The museum was opened in 1967, to celebrate the 100th birthday of the gymnasium. This school has more than 9500 exhibits which show the history and period from tsarist Russia to restored independence. Here you can get information about former and famous gymnasium students who were a part of the Lithuanian nation which had a huge impact in our country’s history and culture: J. Basanavičius, V. Kudirka, P. kriaučiūnas, J. Jablonskis, A. J. Greima, V. Mykolaitis-Putinas, St. Jurgis Matulaitis – these are the signatories of independence act from February 16th in 1918. The main purpose of this museum is to show the difficult and brutal side of Sūduva and Lithuanian history, to attract young people and to educate about patriotism.
