Originally created in 1976 as a small graphic work, this composition has grown into a large-scale mural in Marijampolė. At its centre, a bent female figure drives a stake into the ground, as though tethering a cow to herself, symbolically expressing her connection to the land and village life. Artist Stasys Eidrigevičius spent his childhood in Lepšiai, a village near Panevėžys. On the horizon stands the homestead described in his poem “The Singing Rooster’s Head”. Over the years, this ex libris has been exhibited in various countries around the world and reproduced in catalogues and books. Today, this painterly ex libris in Marijampolė is believed to be the largest in the world.
